CHAMOMILE

Botanical Name :

- Anthemis nobilis ( Roman chamomile )
- Matricaria chamomilla ( German chamomile )

Origins      The Egyptians thought this was a sacred flower and dedicated it to the Sun God. It was used in ritual ceremonies and medicinally to stop fits and fevers.
Description      Chamomile species grow throughout Europe, North Africa and are often found growing wild, but only two species, Anthemis nobilis ( Roman chamomile ) and Matricaria chamomilla ( German chamomile ) have been known well. They have fine, feathery leaves with tiny white or yellow-centered daisy-like flowers. The pale blue oil is extracted from the flower and has a slightly apple fragrance which blends well rose, geranium and lavender.
Therapeutic effects       Particularly noted for its anti-inflammatory and sedative properties, it is excellent for childhood ailments ( whether in children or adults! ) from peevishness to earache. Also used for allergies, anemia, menstrual and menopausal problems, rheumatism, toothache and ulcers.
Uses       Certain chamomile species are used for herbal infusions, but the oil is used in body, bath and hair products for its antiallergenic properties. Use in dilute form for children.
Blending note       Blends well with bergamot , cedarwood , geranium , jasmine , lavender , lemon , marjoram , neroli , rose , sage , sandalwood , tea tree , ylang ylang , peppermint .
Cautionary note       - Pregnant woman should be avoided during first three mounts.
    - Do not allow chamomile oil to get into the eyes.
